  COMMUNITY UPDATE

Belgrade Citizens,

We have received numerous calls regarding an unfounded rumor of a Syrian Refugee Camp being placed in Belgrade. All of our research indicates that this rumor is unfounded.

We have spoken with the offices of both Senator Tester and Senator Daines and they reported that there aren't any refugees coming to Belgrade.

We have also been asked if the City of Belgrade had already issued permits - this is also False. No permits have been requested and no permits have been issued.

The property in question belongs to Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) and they have owned it for several years. Their intent has always been to develop the property when they were able.

HRDC has discussed building some office type buildings and affordable housing at the location. No plans have been submitted to the City office.

Part of this rumor surrounds some mobile housing units that HRDC has purchased and stored in the Belgrade area and other locations.

HRDC management advised that they don't have an exact plan for these homes or where they may use them. They did report that they were not planned for a Syrian Refugee Camp.

We hope this information answers questions that citizens may have after hearing these unfounded rumors.

Respectfully,

Ted Barkley
City Manager City of Belgrade

E. J. Clark Jr.
Chief of Police City of Belgrade
